Akutan Navigation Improvements

This project included harbor excavation and slope protection, construction of two breakwaters, upland disposal, and seeding of the disposal areas. The work was located on the uplands at the head of Akutan Harbor, approximately 6 miles west of the town of Akutan and 33 air miles from Dutch Harbor. Completed 2012 - $55M

Eareckson AS Airfield Paving - Shemya, Alaska

This project mobilized all materials and equipment to the remote island of Shemya Alaska to mill and repave the existing 10,000’ runway and airfield aprons.  New runway and taxiway lighting was also installed.  EMC provided Quality Control Management, testing, and Engineering services throughout the project which spanned two seasons, meeting all USACE specifications and resulting in a 100% pay factor for all paving.  This required monitoring of raw material qualities and construction procedures during barge loading, stockpiling, asphalt pavement production, placement, and compaction. Completed 2010 - $55M

Windward Infrastructure Repair, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

Leeward Airfield Repair, NAVFAC, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba

This project provided airfield repairs for Leeward Airfield at Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for three projects. The Runway 10-28 project provided a tack coat and a new 1 - 1/2” thick surface course overlay, and provided new pavement markings to include centerline, edge stripes, thresholds, and number designations. The Asphalt Taxiways project provided a tack coat and a new 1- 1/2” thick asphalt surface coat overlay, and new pavement markings to include centerline, edge stripes, and hold bars. It also provided two new helipad markings on Taxiway “A” at the intersections of Taxiways “C” and “D”. The last project was the Concrete Taxiways which provided a tack coat and a new 4” thick asphalt surface course overlay, and new pavement markings to include centerline, edge stripes, and hold bars. Completed 2011 - $21M
